An Exercise in Sensing Your Aura

Sensing subtle energies, feeling or even seeing your aura is not as difficult as you might think.  We are sharing a simple exercise in sensing your aura that you may want to practice from time to time to awaken your innate intuitive gifts.

Hold your hands up in prayer position, approximately six inches in front of you, with the tips of your fingers at eye level.  Focus on the warmth of your palms.  Keeping your hands in the same position, slowly ease your hands apart until you feel the coolness of the air between them.  Now move your hands back toward the prayer position until you feel a warmth or tingling sensation.  If necessary, close your eyes and focus on what you feel between your palms.  What you are feeling is your auric field.

Open your eyes, and hold your focus on the empty space between your palms.  Gaze just above your fingertips until your eyes focus on the view just above your hands.  Do you see any colors?  You may literally see colors . . . or you might "sense&quo…

Variations of Reiki

Many different methods of Reiki have been developed since the re-discovery of Reiki by Dr. Mikao Usui.

In the same way that Usui Sensei learned of this form of energy healing, other seekers have meditated upon ways expand their understanding of Reiki.  This includes developing new symbols, new methods of attunements and/or their own method of performing what Usui originally called "reiki".  Some practitioners accept these new systems as Reiki, while others simply acknowledge them as effective methods of EnergyWork.

Reiki is a Japanese word which can literally be translated as "universal life force energy". It is simply a method of natural healing in which the practitioner acts as a conduit for what is commonly referred to as "ki", "chi" or "prana". Some question the validity of different methods of Reiki. To say that Dr. Mikao Usui's method is the only valid form of "reiki" would be a great injustice to other individuals who have walked a similar path. After all, "reiki" is simply another word used to describe the source of energy that is within us all.

Many founders of Reiki variations were first trained in traditional Usui Reiki, and added their own spiritual insights to develop a "new" Reiki system. The Reiki Methods listed below have retained some of the original characteristics of Usui Reiki, with added elements to enhance the overall energetic healing experience.

The differences in methods of Reiki can be found in the symbols, the use of added elements such as sound or meditations, and the underlying issues to be addressed. Some view these additional systems only as higher "levels" of traditional Reiki, and most are only taught to Reiki Masters.

The following is a list of popular variations of Reiki, and how they differ from Dr. Mikao Usui's traditional Reiki.

Karuna Reiki

  • Founder: William Lee Rand
  • "Karuna" means "Compassion"
  • additional symbols added
  • variation in the attunement process
  • uses sound (toning and chanting)

Karuna Ki Reiki
  • Founder: Vincent Amador
  • used for deep emotional healing
  • uses meditation upon and chanting symbol names
  • uses additional symbols not employed in Usui Reiki

Imara Reiki
  • Founders: Barton and Geoffry Wendel
  • "Imara" means "more"
  • does not use symbols
  • for past life and repressed issues

Reiju Reiki
  • Founders: Jayson and Leslie Suttkus
  • "Reiju" means "the Presence of God" and is the method of which Dr. Usui was attuned
  • deepens the flow of Reiki

Ascension Reiki
  • Founders: Jayson and Leslie Suttkus
  • Ten attunements and ten degrees (levels)
  • uses additional symbols

Other forms of Reiki
  • Crystal Reiki
  • Gendai Reiki
  • Kundalini Reiki
  • Rainbow Reiki
  • Seichem Reiki
  • Shamballa Reiki
  • Usui-Tibetan Reiki
  • Holy Fire Reiki (William Lee Rand)
There are many other forms of Reiki not listed above. If you are interested in learning Reiki, it is recommended that you begin with a traditional Usui Reiki Master/Teacher. If you feel drawn to any additional methods/systems of Reiki, investigate them and look for a reputable teacher whom you trust. The healing path of Reiki is a rewarding experience which can be "customized" to help you along your spiritual journey.
