Remember the Lotus

Whenever you should doubt your self-worth, remember the lotus flower.  Even though it plunges to life from beneath the mud, it does not allow the dirt that surrounds it to affect its growth or beauty.  Suzy Kassem. The lotus flower is considered a sacred symbol.  The Lotus symbolizes purity, beauty, majesty, grace, fertility, knowledge and serenity.  The lotus will fluorish in murky waters, pushing through mud and mire.  The petals break through and reach toward the sun, while the leaves stay afloat as they shine in the light.

Symbolically, lotus petals can be found in the chakra symbols.  Each chakra has a specific number of petals, representing ascending vibrational frequencies.  The state of enlightenment is represented by the thousand-petal lotus.

Reiki Hand Positions

Self-Treatment and Treating Others

Although not part of Dr. Mikao Usui's original teachings, Reiki has evolved to include standard hand positions, These now traditional hand positions cover the seven major chakras. Following these positions gives a whole body treatment, which can give an overall balancing effect.

It is not necessary to spend an equal amount of time in each hand position. In fact, many Reiki Practitioners follow their intuition by spending more or less time in a specific position. A Practitioner may also deviate from these positions to include hands, feet, knees, elbows and shoulders when treating a specific ailment.

During distance Reiki sessions, some Practitioners choose to follow these hand positions on a surrogate. Some clients have even reported being able to "feel" when a Reiki Practitioner changes hand positions on the surrogate during a distance session.
