Remember the Lotus

Whenever you should doubt your self-worth, remember the lotus flower.  Even though it plunges to life from beneath the mud, it does not allow the dirt that surrounds it to affect its growth or beauty.  Suzy Kassem. The lotus flower is considered a sacred symbol.  The Lotus symbolizes purity, beauty, majesty, grace, fertility, knowledge and serenity.  The lotus will fluorish in murky waters, pushing through mud and mire.  The petals break through and reach toward the sun, while the leaves stay afloat as they shine in the light.

Symbolically, lotus petals can be found in the chakra symbols.  Each chakra has a specific number of petals, representing ascending vibrational frequencies.  The state of enlightenment is represented by the thousand-petal lotus.

The Change

(Video embedded by permission of Cover Vocalist, Drew Dawson Davis)

Life stands before me like an eternal Spring with new and brilliant clothes.  Carl Friedrich Gauss.
Springtime brings about changes in nature that I absolutely love!  The colors of Spring bring new life to nature following winter to remind us that, even though Mother Nature sleeps for a season, she awakens rejuvenated and revived.  The seasons of our lives can be viewed in the same light.  Although we may experience a symbolic "death" for a season, we can rest assured that it will pass and new life will be breathed into our spirits come Springtime.

O, wind, if Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?  Percy Bysshe Shelley.

Following a very difficult and dark period in my life, my "Springtime" finally arrived.  My life was filled with change last year.  I married the love of my life, traveled to places I've never been, was published in a magazine, and became a Reiki Master/Teacher.  A few years ago these were only dreams . . . and I thought they would never happen.  But last year a lot of my dreams came true!  My life began to bloom again after a bleak and cold winter.  And although a hint of death still echoes in my mind, I am hopeful that my spirit will continue to awaken to changes . . . and to growth toward healing.

"The Change" was originally recorded by Garth Brooks, and when it was first released it really touched my soul.  It has a very deep and personal meaning for me, because of the changes I have been through.  Sometimes I wonder why I kept fighting all those years.  It would have been so easy to just give up on everything.  But something in me kept thriving, and I decided a few years ago that deep inside I needed a change so I could begin to heal.
This heart still believes that love and mercy still exist.  Garth Brooks, The Change.
The cover, by Drew Dawson Davis, is phenomenal!  Check out his YouTube Channel if you get a chance.  He has some wonderful cover songs on his channel, and he is quite talented!  He also offers vocal lessons internationally via Skype, and has a sample vocal lesson posted on his channel. If you are interested in vocal lessons, please visit his website, "The Voice Box Studio International".

To me, the lyrics in this song are so emotionally moving . . . and the message is profound!

The Change
Written By:  Tony Arata & Wayne Tester
Recorded By:  Garth Brooks  (Album "Fresh Horses")

"One hand reaches out
And pulls a lost soul from harm
While a thousand more go unspoken for
They say what good have you done
By saving just this one
It's like whispering a prayer
In the fury of a storm

"And I hear them saying you'll never change things
And no matter what you do it's still the same thing
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world will know
That it will not change me

"This heart still believes
That love and mercy still exist
While all the hatred rage and so many say
That love is all but pointless in madness such as this
It's like trying to stop a fire
With the moisture from a kiss

"And I hear them saying you'll never change things
And no matter what you do it's still the same thing
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world will know
That it will not change me

"As long as one heart still holds on
Then hope is never really gone

"I hear them saying you'll never change things
And no matter what you do it's still the same thing
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world we know
Never changes me"

It was very difficult for me to take a step into the light and expose all the darkness that has happened in my life.  I've been asked why . . . and I have wondered to myself what sharing my story could possibly accomplish.  Not keeping secrets, not holding back on the truth, has done so much toward my own healing process.  Keeping secrets proliferates the feeling of shame and fear that goes along with abuse.  So personally, telling the whole story has accomplished a great deal for me.  It is encouraging for me to know that others are brave enough to share their stories, so if sharing what I have been through helps just one person find freedom it is worth sharing.  I want others to know where I have been so that they can understand just how far I have come.  I want others who have lived with abuse to know that there is hope and healing with perseverance.
Be the Change that you wish to see in the world.  Mahatma Gandhi.
It has been hard for me to finally stand up for myself and share my story.  I have lost familial relationships because of it.  But sometimes to move forward, we must walk away from the weight that holds us back.  Sometimes we must walk away from anyone who wants to hinder our growth process.  Sometimes we have to take a stand, no matter how insignificant it might seem at the time, so we will not be changed by what others say or do to us.

Sometimes, when others say . . .
"You'll never change things . . . no matter what you do . . ."
We must say, "This heart still believes!"

When someone keeps blowing out the flame to keep us in the darkness, we've got to go light our candle somewhere else!

If there is one thing I have learned through my healing process, it's that I must be who I am, regardless of how anyone else in the world feels about it.  I have learned that it is perfectly alright to be real . . . real about who I am, real about what I have been through, and real about the path I am now on.  I know that those closest to me who truly love me will be okay with it.

Sometimes being real brings about hard lessons as well.  All we can really do when life hands us lemons is make lemonade!  Take the lesson, learn from it and move on.  We cannot let the world outside, no matter how harsh it can be at times, change the goodness we have on the inside!

Keep on shining!
