Songbird, tell me a story
of days gone by - -
when Lovers came
and whispered nigh!

Songbird, sing me a love song - -
a lullaby;
a beautiful lyric
and help me to cry.

Songbird, quote me a sonnet
or lovely reprise.
I'll sit here beside you
and watch the sunrise.

Songbird, what is your story?
What have you seen
as you rest upon your perch?
Please . . . paint me a scene!

Songbird, I'm looking for peace,
a lyric serene - -
Please sing me a love song
So that I may dream.

This poem was inspired by our Honeymoon trip Out West.  We stopped in Gothenburg, Nebraska at the Sod House Museum.  The curator told us a lovely story about the birdcage that decorated the front of the grass-and-mud one-room abode.

Sing your own song.

There is nothing more beautiful than a bird who is free.
